Texas COVID-19 Data Resource

A Comprehensive Look At Our Current Moment

State Explorer

The impacts of COVID-19 on Texas has been both wide and deep. In an effort to track the toll taken on the lives of Texans and the deep economic hardships endured across the state, we have organized a series of data visualizations at the statewide level.

County Explorer

Not every community has felt the effects of COVID-19 equally. Through partnerships with multiple stakeholders across the state, we've worked to document those local impacts being felt across each of our 254 counties. Read here to explorer county-level data.

STATEWIDE PROFILE

Current Case Data

as of Apr 18, 2021

CONFIRMED cases include those where patients tested positive with a MOLECULAR test, which checks for signs of the virus's DNA in the patient. The number of ACTIVE and RECOVERED cases are ESTIMATED by the State, and include both patients who are confirmed with a MOLECULAR tests and patients who are considered PROBABLE cases. The latter are patients who have either tested positive using an ANTIGEN test or are presumed positive by symptom. For that reason, the sum of ACTIVE , RECOVERED , and DECEASED patients will exceed the total number of CONFIRMED cases.

Current Vaccine Data

as of Apr 19, 2021

Note: This is the latest vaccine data presented by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. Due to a number of administrative burdens, including processing time and system interoperation, the number of vaccinations reported lags the true number of vaccinations that have been completed.

Demographics of Persons Vaccinated

Note: The State reports vaccination rates by four age groups, combined race and ethnicity, and gender. While data are reported in an OTHER race/ethnicity category, that category is suppressed in our analysis due to reliability issues.

About the Types of Testing

There are two types of tests most often used to detect Active COVID-19 infections: Molecular Tests and Antigen Tests . Both tests rely on a nasopharyngeal swab (a cotton swab up the nose) to collect sample material. Both tests detect active infections, but the Antigen test has a higher false negative rate. That means it is more likely than the molecular test to miss a true infection.

Population Health

As of Apr 19, 2021

NOTE: These charts were developed by recording each day's value from the DSHS daily report published on their 'Accessible Dashboard Data' report , saving a copy of that information in a timestamped file on our github, and then organizing each of the individual timestamped files into a single time-series dataset that allows us to track trends in population health as the state completes more cases and fatality investigations. As of July 27th, fatality demographics have shifted from being processed using data from completed epidemiological fatality investigations to being processed using data from death certificates.

Each of these charts breaks data that has been processed from case reports and death certificates by DSHS, by race, age, and gender. Each box represents the share of each group's representation among all recorded COVID-19 cases and deaths in Texas. For these calculations, cases and deaths with unknown age, gender, or race were removed. Each graph reports the percentage of all cases that had unknown age, race, or gender.
